Sunday 25 September 2022 and Saturday 1 October 2022 - Modena by Jean Jacques Denis& Anthony Roux (France 2021) 74’ V.O. with Italian subtitles Bristle is a little girl raised by dragons. She can breathe fire, is as strong as ten men, has scales that allow her to change colours according to the season, her hair is home to many small animals. But when her father, Dragon, has to pay Sorcerog using his second most precious asset, he offers him Bristle, throwing her into endless sadness and forcing her to flee the family cave. Bristle then embarks on a journey to discover the world of Man. Thanks to humans, she learns the meaning of friendship and solidarity, but also that of greed, which seems to devour the king's heart. This is how Bristle acquires her nickname: “Princess Dragon." The film Princess Dragon was a huge success when it was released in France. Traditional tales never cease to fascinate, and after Shrek, the big-hearted ogre, it was time for dragons to reveal one of the most hidden facets of fairy tales: paternal instinct. Bristle, daughter of a dragon, looks nothing like her brothers, and if she had not shown her father that she could fly thanks to her hair, he would have abandoned her, so suspicious he was of humans. Bristle resembles little Ponyo from Hayao Miyazaki's Ponyo on the Cliff By the Sea (2008). Just like her, Bristle is a creature that has human characteristics but belongs to a fantasy universe; she is sensitive to the natural balance of the world and protects animals against human cruelty and stupidity. She finds allies in the female characters she meets, starting with a little princess who will become her friend. The female figures, as in Miyazaki's film, are bearers of positive values, against men’s, rather associated with war.
